Sound Therapy

BACP Logo - 40594.png

Sound waves have been shown to alter brainwaves and lead to deep mental and physical relaxation. Our brain, heart and mind are connected. Sound Therapy relaxes the mind. Breathing deepens, heart rate slows, and muscles relax. Sound Therapy is a meditative and relaxing therapy that could be compared to massage, only using sound instead of touch.

Sound from Tibetan Singing Bowls entrain the brain to move into the Theta brain wave frequencies that induce deep meditative and peaceful states, clarity of mind, and intuition. The sound vibrations impact our nervous system, engaging our relaxation reflex and inhibiting the stress or pain response.

  • Lower anger and blood pressure

  • Improve circulation and increases blood flow

  • Deep relaxation and pain relief

  • Chakra balancing

  • Increase mental and emotional clarity

  • Promote stillness, happiness and wellbeing. Stimulate the immune system.

  • Aid the immune system and fibromyalgia and psoriasis in individuals that meditate

What do Quartz Crystal singing bowls do?

Quartz produces pure tones. The cells of the human body have a natural geometrical relationship to the structure of quartz crystals. Being made up of crystalline structures, including our DNA, blood, bones and the crystal-colloidal liquid of the brain, we align with the crystal inherent structure. With crystal sound affecting the body and, in particular, the brain, the resonance relays an order that allows consciousness to travel into altered states of awareness.

What Does Research Say About Drumming?

Recent medical and scientific studies are documenting the healing power of the drum. These studies have shown that drumming lowers blood pressure, improves the immune system, eases depression, and ameliorates the symptoms Alzheimer’s. For example, a landmark controlled scientific investigation by Bittman and colleagues in (Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine,) demonstrated “statistically significant positive cell-mediated immune system changes that correlated with one-hour group drumming sessions”(International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship, July 9, 2004). And so, science is catching up with the mystics and the shamans.

Finally, drumming is fun…and fun, as we all know, is healing. Laughing, dancing, and chanting with a drum releases endorphin and lowers cortisol (stress hormone) levels. Drumming is expressive. When you pick up a drum you have a chance to express your own unique rhythm. There will never be another one like it and not one can replicate it, not even an identical twin.

Drumming connects us. When we drum in a group we listen to other people. The rhythms we play together connect us energetically and emotionally. Drumming teaches us to communicate better. Drumming Therapy Is a Powerful and Effective for Self-development:

  • Ability to focus inward as well as outward

  • Ability to stay "on task"

  • Improve listening skills

  • Channel aggressive/destructive impulses into creative and positive activity

  • Develop self-control, patience and cooperation
